Cambridge Blue were victorious in the Cam Cup 2019 team racing held at Grafham on 23/24 February 2019. So a Cambridge student team appears again on the winners list after an interval of 20 years. A Cambridge student team won the first event in 1999.
Cam Cup 2019 Details
Saturday provided perfect conditions for team racing, and the organisers worked the 4 flights of Fireflies hard. As a result, most of the 21 teams competing sailed 10 races. Suitably exercised, sailors headed off to the excellent dinner in the Royal Cambridge Hotel. After that they whopped it up at the Cindies night club into the early hours.
Sunday dawned windless and stayed that way for most of the day. No racing was possible so overall placings were decided on the results of Saturday’s round robin. With team changeovers not happening on Sunday, some team photographs are missing. Full results of the event will be available on the kSail website for a time.
A big thank you to the Race Committee and Umpires who ran the event so efficiently, to Grafham Water SC for their continuing support, and to the army of Cambridge students who kept things going behind the scenes.
