Over the Easter holidays, Cambridge Blue returned to BUSA finals at the sunny Queen Mary reservoir. A heatwave brought some pleasant weather for sunbathing, unfortunately less suitable for sailing. The first day was met with a rather lengthy postponement, though we were lucky enough to go floating whilst Keith negotiated with the wind gods. Eventually, his efforts were rewarded, and we were able to have some light wind sailing in gorgeous sunshine. Unfortunately, the wind continued its tricks into Thursday as we arrived at the club on day 2 to be met with another postponement! Fortunately, this was relatively short lived, and we quickly hit the water for more thrilling racing. A more successful day than the one prior, and we made up ground on teams placed above us (oh the joys of Swiss league).
The final day loomed and what the Swiss league had given us on day 2, it took on day 3. Our efforts were not sufficient to pull us into the top 8, but a morning of great racing and an afternoon of spectating in the sun set us up nicely for attending the BUSA finals dinner, where we were acknowledged for our efforts towards sustainability, all thanks to our sustainability officer Ben Coast! Although the final result may not have been as we hoped, it was fantastic racing and a lovely end to this year’s blues team. Congratulations to Exeter Blue for winning the event, but very honourable mention to UEA Yellow in second place, who performed excellently throughout the entirety of the event!
