One of our brave students writes:
I felt very nervous on the sunny morning of the CUCrC taster session, with not a jot of sailing experience under my belt. On my way to Harvey Court in my sacrificial trainers, I met up with the other newbies for a short and cheery car ride to Grafham Water. Once there, I was welcomed with the widest of open arms by the committee. Hannah, a now-graduate member of the club returning to help for the day, took me under her wing to show me the basics of crewing – and even gave me a wetsuit to wear, which I was very thankful for amid some moderate wind!
I’ve since come back to more training sessions at Grafham, and am slowly learning the ropes (no pun intended) of team racing. Whether you’re a complete beginner like I was or have already got some sailing under your belt, CUCrC is a brilliant place to learn. The committee is endlessly patient, the sessions are great fun, and you don’t need any experience, just a willingness to get a bit wet. If you’ve been curious about sailing, take it from me and give it a go!
