A Busy Start to Term for CUCrC!

It’s been an exciting and action-packed start to term for CUCrC! We kicked things off with our annual taster sessions, previously known as MegaWeekend. The weekend was a huge success, with plenty of enthusiastic new sailors getting out on the water for some lovely sailing, even if Sunday morning brought very light wind!

Trials followed the weekend after, with about 40 people registering their interest in joining the squad. Saturday focused on boat-handling and boat-speed exercises in the morning, before moving into fleet racing in the afternoon. Sunday was all about team racing drills (plenty of piggy!).

A huge thank you to our alumni sailors, Tim and Magnus, for helping run the weekend and assist with selection decisions. We were initially a little worried about numbers of returning members, so it’s fantastic to see such a strong group of new sailors joining us this year.

We’re delighted to have formed three full teams, plus an additional development squad for those wanting a more relaxed commitment. The first training session was a real success with breezy conditions providing some excellent learning opportunities.

The teams are now busy choosing their team colours and looking forward to their team dinners on Wednesday; a perfect way to start the great season ahead!
