Our New President And New Senior Committee Member – November 2016

Mike Hayles (Churchill 1962, Sailing Secretary 1964/65, Half Blue 1965) was elected President of the Club at the recent AGM on 29th November 2016. Mike has played a significant role in the Club over the past six years or so. Originally becoming involved in alumni matters, he recruited Anthony Butler as Senior Secretary and was instrumental in encouraging then-President Ian Liddell to take the lead in bringing the Club through some stormy waters in 2011/12. Mike was appointed a Trustee in 2011 and has served on the General Committee since then.

Mike is a keen Dragon sailor, was Chairman of the Dragon Class Technical Committee, and has been active long term in Royal Thames YC matters. He is also a past Commodore of Aldeburgh YC. The General Committee and the Club welcome him as our new President.

Michael John Gifford (Caius 1997, Half Blue 1998, Senior Treasurer 2000-2003) was elected a Senior Committee Member to fill the vacancy left by Mike Hayles’ election to President. He Currently resides in Cambridge and is a member of Hunts SC. He has good recent experience of the Club both as a student member and also through his time as a former Senior Treasurer.

Michael John remains a keen sailor and has competed in a wide variety of dinghy and small keel boat classes at both national and international level. He has served on the committee of Starcross YC, Ranelagh SC and the Lark Class. We welcome him as our second and new Senior Committee Member.
