Put Saturday 1 October in your diary now. This is the day of the annual OCSS Generations (team racing) Event and Dinner. All the arrangements are as usual, with the dinner being in Kellogg College. So, team captains and others from previous years, start contacting people now and advise organiser Lottie Rapson of your intention to enter a team – no need to wait until you have finalised your squad.
The General Committee has been active recently raising the profile of sailing and windsurfing in Cambridge and streamlining marketing. The Club appears in the ‘Society’ feature of the latest edition of CAM, and this has resulted in some interesting interactions with long-lost former members. In particular, we now have a definitive history of how windsurfing started at Cambridge (7th paragraph of article).
Colleges are being informed regularly of their students who have represented the University or College in event victories, or have been awarded Blues. This information has been welcomed by the colleges concerned.
The streamlining of marketing has two goals. One is to increase membership and Club activity in general sailing and windsurfing, as distinct from university level competition. The other is to enable the Club to more effectively seek commercial sponsorship. If you have views on either of these issues, do get in touch!
Finally please do let us know of members sailing successes for the late summer newsletter.
