Early Summer Newsletter – June 2016

Tuesday 14 June saw the largest invasion yet of Grafham by Cambridge sailors and windsurfers for the annual May Week Cuppers competitions. Some 70 dinghy sailors took part in team racing Cuppers and 15 windsurfers contested their Cuppers. Robinson won the team racing and Sidney Sussex claimed victory in the windsurfing event. A full report and some photographs are on  this website.

Varsity Match

As already announced, the 99th Varsity Match will take place under the burgee of the Royal Southern YC, Hamble on 28 – 30 June. Practice takes place on the Tuesday, with the match taking place on the Wednesday and Thursday. The Varsity Match Dinner will take place in the RSYC on Thursday 30 June at 7:30pm, and members and guests are very welcome to attend. The cost is £35 – make your booking with  OUYC Vice Commodore Jonny Taylor  and (perhaps!) celebrate a 4th consecutive Cambridge victory.

Schools Team Racing at Grafham

An important transaction took place this summer term when Kimbolton School bought the oldest Club Firefly flight. So the Club now has two good flights, with the third older flight in new hands but remaining available at Grafham. We plan to work closely with Kimbolton as they develop their Firefly team racing activities, and hope to encourage them to hold a schools event at Grafham in 2018.

Best wishes,
