Cambridge Blue qualified for the BUSA team racing finals with a victory in every race at the BUSA Midland Area Qualifiers held at Grafham Water SC on 6/7 February 2016. Cambridge Black also qualified – dropping only their race against Cambridge Blue. Cambridge Yellow were just outside the qualifying four (Cambridge x 2, Birmingham White, and Loughborough White) by one race, and so get a second chance to qualify at the Playoffs in Swansea on 5/6 March.
Although the event took place at Grafham, it was very well organised by Birmingham – with a little help from Cambridge sailors, past and present. The three flights of Cambridge Fireflies were adequate for the task, and good race management on Sunday ensured that a complete round robin was sailed for the 14 teams entered. Boisterous conditions on Saturday had resulted in racing being suspended at midday.
Congratulations to Cambridge on their success and Birmingham on their organisation – and good luck to Yellow at the Swansea Playoffs!
