Put Thursday 10 March in your diary for a joint drinks party with the OUYC and O&CSS, starting at 6:30pm in the Oxford & Cambridge Club, 71-77 Pall Mall, SW1Y 5HD. Tickets are £15 (£6 less than last year!) – send your remittance to: Mr A R Butler, Sort Code: 09-06-40, Account: 10165317, Reference: your initial and surname. Please also email Anthony Butler, so that he knows who is coming. Alternatively, send your cheque to him at 19 Hendons Way, Holyport, MAIDENHEAD SL6 2LF. Guests are welcome.
The evening will include an address by Sam Davies and Annie Lush, skipper and crew of the all-girl boat in the 2014/15 Volvo Ocean Race. We have booked a somewhat bigger room at the O&C Club in anticipation of the interest that Sam and Annie will generate. Numbers are still limited and last year we were ‘full house’, so book in good time to ensure your place. I look forward to welcoming you at the O&C Club that evening.
Calms and gales restricted team racing in the Michaelmas term, but a strong contingent of windsurfers went to and enjoyed the Aussie Kiss event in Cornwall. Brief reports of events are up on the website, along with the crowded fixture list for the current term. The highlight will, of course, be the Cambridge defence of their BUSA crown at the end of March on Grafham Water.
In this BUSA-organising year the Club is seeking sponsorship. Can you help at all? What is needed is the names of contacts we can approach – rather than general suggestions.
Training & Telephoning
The team racers made a start to their BUSA campaign with a full pre-term day of training on 10 January at Grafham. After the training session some 13 members of the squad initiated the 2016 Alumni Telephoning Campaign, so expect a call from a current sailor or windsurfer in the near future.
The main focus of this year’s campaign is thanking alumni who have been supporting the Club over the past few years. Half the database will be telephoned this year and the other half next year. If you do not want to receive student calls, for whatever reason, then please let me know and I will flag up your preference on the alumni database.
With best wishes for success and pleasant sailing in 2016,
