Autumn Alumni Newsletter (125th Anniversary) – October 2017

Put Saturday 21 April 2018 in your diary now! That is when the Club will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary – 125 years of Sailing, 50 years of Ladies Sailing, and 40 years of Windsurfing at Cambridge. Jo Lucas is organising a Random Pairs Team Racing event during the day and there will be a dinner in Darwin College in the evening. If there is a good breeze, some windsurfers might also take to the water …

For random pairs team racing you come with a partner (Jo will help with pairing you up if you give notice). Pairs are matched for two-boat-a-side team racing during the day and, for the competitive, the pair with most wins is the victor! Jo is investigating the possibility of some discreet handicapping and you sign up at the event’s Facebook page. Detailed information will be posted on that page.

The celebrations have been timed to be just before the start of term, so overnight accommodation should be available in your College if you book in good time. The timing also enables current undergraduates to participate by coming up a little early for term. The 125th Anniversary club tie – a most attractive design – can now be ordered online (£19 including UK postage; £21 for overseas).

Sponsorship For The Club’s Teams
Would your Company benefit from recruiting capable Cambridge students? Talk to your HR Manager about the possibility of CUCrC sponsorship giving your Company access to 40 keen team racers and around 1,000 interested sailing and windsurfing students at Cambridge.

We are looking for commercial sponsorship to help defray the large expense (over £1,200 each year) that students incur in representing the Club at events during the season (BUSA, UKTRA, Wilson, etc.), and at the Varsity Match. Please get in touch with me if you are able to help in any way.
