Emmanuel, by taking the Brindley Cup for Windsurfing from Catz in the final, was the only college to hold out against the determined onslaught of the assembled Robinson and Catz cohorts in a superb Cuppers held at Grafham Water on 20 June 2017. In perfect Mediterranean conditions and in a field of no less than 21 colleges, Robinson took the Yule Oldham Cup from Catz in the team racing final - with Catz 2 winning the separate Silver Fleet trophy competition. Robinson also captured the Windsurfing Silver Fleet trophy from Murray Edwards in that final.
Monday 12 June was D-Day for the great assault on the Girton Store where countless years of windsurfing boards and gear have accumulated, along with one very sad and battered wooden Firefly that was given an honourable discharge.
Congratulations to Nick Craig (Emmanuel 1992) on taking his 5th OK World Championship title in Barbados 24-31 May 2017 in a fleet of 80 boats. Nick discarded a 3rd and counted two 2nds and six 1sts to take the title 12 points clear of runner-up Jim Hunt (also UK). A full report is on the Yachts & Yachting website (opens in a new window).
Cambridge performed well at an excellent Wilson Trophy held at West Kirby 5-7 May 2017, with 30 teams competing - including three from the USA. Birdham Bandits won, with a Cambridge alumni team (Royal Thames Blue) finishing runners-up in a nail-biting 2-3 final. Overall results were as follows.
No less than five Cambridge windsurfers made the journey to Colwyn Bay, North Wales for the annual BUCS/SWA Championships on 28-30th April 2017. Cambridge put up a strong showing at the BUSA Match Racing Championships at Weymouth 21-23 April 2017. The team finished 2nd in their group in the round robin on the Friday, but lost 1-2 to Warwick in a closely-fought quarter final on the Saturday. They finished 5th overall after winning a 'death or glory' one-race playoff against Loughborough on the Sunday. Well done team!

Cambridge dominated BUSA at West Kirby 4-6 April 2017, finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, but conceding their crown 3-1 to Exeter, who have been arch-rivals throughout the season. Conditions were near-perfect for most of the event, though the first day was somewhat breezy, and the Manchester/Liverpool organising duo ran a superb championships, backed up by the unrivalled facilities of West Kirby. Congratulations to all the Cambridge teams - no other university has ever achieved such a performance. The result demonstrates the depth of sailing talent in the CUCrC - nurtured by the good facilities that alumni generosity has made possible.
A Cambridge team took Gold in the 3rd round of the RYA Winter Match Racing Series held held at Weymouth in Elliot 6m keel boats 25/26 March 2017. The forecast for the weekend was exactly right - bright sunshine, plus loads of wind (so much so that mains were reefed, and the spinnakers left unused). Fuelled by large amounts of bacon, and a handful of YouTube tactics videos, the round robin got underway on the Saturday with Cambridge finishing top overall on 8/8 wins.
